I have had a very virtuous day today. I have completed two embroidery kits, sorted all the stuff out for my new role as Programme Secretary at the Embroiderers' Guild, filled out my tax form, my student loan form, sorted all my emails out. I also updated the Embroiderers' Guild website, Twitter, blog and Facebook page! Few! It is still only lunch time!
This afternoon I am going to Ebay some stuff, complete a crochet gun and make a start on a fabric journal I am making. What a busy day!
It has been a busy time here, it was James' birthday on the 1st so we had a few days off for that.
I did a Hobbycraft demo on card making last weekend and I sold 7 crochet monsters.
Claire came to see us on Wednesday and we went out for a drink.
I spent 6 hours having my tattoo outlined on Thursday. Ouch! They think it will be around 3 more sessions to colour it in. The photo is from Friday, so it is not as red now. (The red bits will be grey!)
On Friday I did a workshop in the Embroiderers Guild on sewing a beetle and any time in between I have been sewing the stole. It has come on really well in the last few days and should be done very soon, it is the gold that takes the time, the bush is very quick.
Next week will be much quieter, just an Embroiderers' Guild meeting and an embroidery worshop
I am getting on well with the stole today (well I did start at 6!) I have nearly finished the first side, the darker thread is much easier to use and is much quicker to sew with. I need to finish a bit of the trunk, make sure that none of the leaves are gappy when I take the hoop off and then I need to sew the sides back up (I had to slit the seams and sew the design through the sides).
I can now reveal my new business idea, which is to make ethical crafts. I am trying to really research my supplies, which is harder than it sounds! The yarn I have had so far is made of hemp. I photographed the 2 parcels so far, the pictures are not great, but you get the idea.
It is now lunchtime and I am going to start doing more on my new business this afternoon, I am trying to split my day between sewing and the new business, hopefully in the next week or so, the new website will be up and running!
I am doing a demonstration in Hobbycraft tonight and I have been making lots of creatures which I am allowed to sell. So far I have made 2 bees, 2 stick insects, a Glock, 2 reindeer, a pig, all the bits to make 2 frogs and half a second pig in the last week or so and I am looking forward to not making any more for a few days! I will have pretty much 2 of everything by this evening. Few!
I get to hear about my tattoo appointment today, I am very excited!
Today I have been doing my stole, I am so behind, but hopefully I will be getting lots done this week.
I am also making another Glock as I gave the black one to a friend as a get well present. The new one I will take to Hobbycraft tomorrow night for my amigurumi (crochet animal) demonstration with lots of other toys.
We are not going for our usual cinema trip today as we have been into town a lot recently and there is not really anything we want to see, James quite fancied the Judge Dredd film, but it was only in 3D and without wishing to sound ancient, we don't really like them in 3D
Here as promised is ALL I have done on the stole, I still have the other side to do too. Oh dear!
It has been a bit of an odd couple of weeks. I think it comes from not eating properly and I think I am mostly back on track now.
Today I have been packing Ebay parcels, catching up on my emails from the weekend because James' brother Alan came to stay, we had a nice time, ate bad food and drank too much. It did make us realise how much food plays a part in our mood and we are making a special effort to eat well from now on. We then went into town for lunch and to go and see the design for my new tattoo. I can't show you because the chap did not want me to show anyone in case I took his design and got someone else to do the actual tattoo, but hopefully it will be on my skin soon and then I will be able to post pictures.
When we got back from town I did more on my stole, I am so far behind on it, but it does not have to be done until April. I will put some pictures up tomorrow to show the progress.
I have been making lots of amigurumi (crochet) creatures for a demonstration in Hobbycraft on Thursday. I have been having trouble getting the eyes, but hopefully they will be here in time.
I have been drifting a bit recently and I have decided to do more work in the day so I can get more done and feel I have achieved something, otherwise like today, I would have just packed parcels and got no work done at all. I am also keeping a food and mood diary and trying to cut out the junky food. What will be hard is finding something we like to do that is not going out for food as there is nowhere that serves good vegan food here. Maybe if we eat better, our heads will be in a better place and we won't need to go as much.
Hopefully I will get back to posting what I have been doing each day
I am doing a stole commission at the moment. The sample I did of half the design is pictured below and it was accepted. I have until April to finish it as it is for an ordination.
The calorie counting didn't work, I just kept getting grumpy! It was very interesting to get a better idea of what you are actually eating, so I am using it as a guide and trying to eat consistently with no 'oh stuff it' moments. I started yesterday doing an exercise video which is extremely well reviewed on Amazon and it went well. It claims I could lose 20 pounds in 30 days which would get me where I would like to be, but I am not sure.....
I am working on a crochet pitcher plant at the moment, it is going quite well, but I have gone wrong at the top and so I am starting again. The Glock pattern seems to be very popular and now I am looking at doing more guns. My friend has leant me a P 90 (replica!) which I will try to copy, but I really want to do an AK 47 which you can buy on Ebay (replica) for less than £10!
I think I haven't posted for a while because I didn't want you to see the new work! Here it is anyway. The little pieces are based on the seasons, and the eyes are too small which is a shame because I was really pleased with the way the background worked out. Oh well, it did not take long and I am sure I could copy it and get it right next time! Sorry the pictures are not great.
I have finished another PDF, it is a collection of 9 of my most popular designs and it is available for £1 here
I sold another stick insect, so I made that this morning, and I finished off 2 embroideries that I have been waiting to finish for ages, they are done now and are on my 'embroideries' page here
I am now going to start on a new style for me, hopefully I will be able to post all of the amazing photos of it in the next few days, if it goes quiet, you know it didn't work :@)
Tomorrow I am going to 'Itchy Fingers' again, I went for the first time on Friday and it was so inspiring and I am going to have a tattoo consultation
A very busy day today, we had DVD orders for James' dad, so I burned those and made 4 new cases for future orders.
I managed to get my 'How to Embroider a Robin' PDF finished! it has only taken me about a year longer than I expected and it is now available along with 'How to Embroider a Jay' here I have also started work on 'How to Embroider a Dipper' which should be up in the next few days. I have spent some of today marketing these PDFs and now I am going to have a break for a while and then I am going to start Ebaying some more of our things that we have collected but no longer need.
I tried to get my gun finished last night, but I think I over stuffed the grip and so it is too big now. Hopefully I can get that finished in the next few days and I will be able to upload that as well
A busy day today, I have taken a picture of my hamsters, the sun made a brief appearance so I shot out with the camera! I also finished the wren. Hooray! It has been nearly finished for ages now. I will be getting him framed tomorrow. I am off to play now. Tee hee!
I live in Newcastle (UK) and I have been a professional embroiderer for over 10 years.
